THE ASK

R/GA, the award winning design agency, had just moved into its new 900-people headquarters in NYC. The team needed an app to help employees find each other, find and book meeting rooms, and discover the various connected features in the office.

01
Wireframing and Prototyping

The app navigation needed to accommodate basic features like wayfinding, room booking, artwork finding, as well as unknown, future explorations from various R/GA’s teams (VR, use of beacons, etc). The goal of the app was to connect people with the office space around them. With guidance from a creative director, I created a few versions based on an office map paradigm.

02
Designing and Testing

The app’s eventual users (my fellow co-workers) were readily available, so I tested usability informally and frequently. As a visual designer got involved, we created several prototypes for high level design and microinteractions, tested them with both users, and used them to gather feedback from stakeholders.

03
Visual Design and Development

As the visual designer finalized screens with the R/GA brand and style, more ideas were incorporated in the process. Prototypes were created in Principle for Mac to test microinteractions like contextual office and employee notifications, and meeting room list. Meanwhile, we worked remotely with R/GA Buenos Aires to develop it. The first version was launched in January 2017.

RESULTS

The first version of the app launched in 2017. It became part of a new suite of offerings by
R/GA to their clients around physical connected office spaces.
